Clean up duplicates before a DAM migration.
Every duplicate you migrate is one more file to move, map, tag and check in the new system. Twinsift finds them before you start, so only the files you need make the move.
- 99.9%of duplicates found
- 96%+of crops traced to their source
- 0files deleted without your approval
Accuracy measured on a test library of 250,995 files.
Why clean up first
Migrations are planned and priced by volume. Storage, transfer, metadata mapping and quality checks all grow with the number of files, and duplicates add to every one of them. Once they are in the new system they are harder to remove, because people have started linking to them.
A cleanup plan in five steps
- Scan the source. Connect Amazon S3, SharePoint or Google Drive with read-only access, or send us an export. The free scan shows how many duplicates, renditions, crops, banners and edits the library holds.
- Review the groups. Every file is grouped with its original, with the reason it was matched.
- Set the rules. Choose what happens to each kind of file: delete duplicates and renditions, keep crops and banners linked to their source, flag edits for review.
- Clean up or export the list. Approved deletes go to the source system's trash. If you migrate from an export, you get a list of the files to leave behind.
- Migrate the keepers. Move one original per photo, with its crops and banners linked to it.
If the new home is Amazon S3, SharePoint or Google Drive, Twinsift then checks new uploads every day, so the new library stays clean.
Keep the right original
A migration is when the original has to be right. Twinsift picks the keeper from the pixels: files enlarged from smaller ones are ranked down, then the highest true resolution wins, then format, bit depth, compression and sharpness. A file called final_v2 gets no credit for its name.
Questions
When should we scan before a migration?
As early as you can. Most libraries are scanned within a day, but allow time for your team to review the groups and agree the rules.
Can you scan a library from an export?
Yes. If the old system has no direct connection, we scan an export of its files and give you the list of files to migrate and to leave behind.
Know what you are migrating.
The free scan counts the duplicates, renditions, crops, banners and edits in your library and how much space they take. Read-only access, and nothing in your library changes.
